In Search of Common Ground

Consider looking for common ground, to better understand your beliefs and those of others.

Consider talking to someone who believes in something different than you. Instead of trying to convince them of your opinion, work hard to fully understand their opinion. If they choose to better understand your opinion, express it in the least volatile way possible. If they choose not to understand your opinion, focus only on understanding theirs. The more we understand, the more we can find common ground and move forward as a civilization.

Consider listening to, or reading from, media sources that are different than yours. Try to stay calm to help fully understand the view being presented. Consider listening to, or reading from, the media sources from the other side on a regular basis. The more we do this, the more we might begin to understand someone else’s point of view. The more we understand, the more we can find common ground and move forward as a civilization.

I am them, they are me

Black, White
Sunni, Shiite
Rich, Poor
We all laugh
We all cry
We all bleed
I am them, they are me

Gay, Straight
Christian, Muslim
Native, Immigrant
We all dream
We all falter
We all die
I am them, they are me

Hate Less
Love More
I am those people
