This is a great list. I&#039;ve advised people for a while that asking for a job is not networking.

I would add one more tip to the list:  Bring something to the conversation.  I try very hard to give or send something of (information) value between times I am calling about me.  By making contacts less one-sided, it is easier for everyone.  As an added benefit, it forces me to listen hard for places I can help the person I&#039;m networking with.

If you get a chance, check out our software, PerfectJob at www.PerfectJobSoftware.com   It handles a lot of the tracking and follow-up much easier than a spreadsheet, including target update periods, tracking target companies, and evaluation of results.  I think you will find it useful.
