Not Very Shocking Case For Regulation and Government Oversight

This week I was stringing Christmas lights on my back patio. I always plug in the lights before I start hanging as it helps me prevent hanging a bad string. I was hanging them across a ledge that goes over my Jacuzzi and knew I was taking a risk if I dropped the string in to the water. I also knew that my home had been inspected by city inspectors while it was being constructed so I had appropriate safeguards in the electrical wiring. I figured the risk was very low that I would electrocute myself if I dropped the string of lights in the Jacuzzi. I did accidentally drop them into the water. The circuit breaker flipped and turned off the current. I pulled the lights out of the water, shook them out and finished hanging them. I reset the circuit breaker and my back patio beamed of Christmas spirit.

I hear some Democrats accuse Republican of not wanting any government regulation. I hear some Republicans accuse Democrats of wanting to strangle business with too much government regulation.

I believe in appropriate regulation.

I do not believe that the government should further regulate the auto industry as a condition of the bailout. In fact, I don’t believe in the bailout. If the US auto industry can’t figure out what to build and how to build them, let a competitor buy the assets and use the labor to build cars that will be purchased. Leave the auto industry regulation alone for now. It is appropriate for now.
