For people reading this blog entry that have not read my previous entries on the homeless, I encourage you to read Homeless Project Background. It will give you some background on my project. Briefly, I have made a commitment to give $20 each week to a homeless person and minimally ask their name and where they are from.
Today I met Debra from Eureka, California. Debra is also Sheila whom I gave money to a few weeks back. Interesting that she changed her name when talking to me, but still was from the same hometown. (more…)

In the parking lot of Starbucks, I met up with Mike from Leesville Louisiana. I have given money to Mike before, but this was the first time I paid close attention to who he was and what he said to me. Mike is about 50 and very weathered like most of the homeless. He has a full grey beard, wears a baseball cap and has typically dirty clothes. He has his shopping cart with all sorts of essentials for street survival. (more…)

Every month on the second Thursday at 5:30pm, TKF hosts a Hour of Hope event. The Hour of Hope gives the attendees insight into the work of TKF, the problems of youth violence and how TKF is going to “Stop Kids From Killing Kids.” Near the end of the hour, this was read. I was deeply touched. After you read it, tell me what you think.

Yesterday, I got home late at about 11:00 at night, after I was at my homeboy’s house because I did not want to hear my father’s yelling and my mother’s cry. Empty beer bottles, smell of a drunk and cold food is the only thing I can find. I fall asleep to the sound of my stomach growling and the ache I feel all night. (more…)

Last Saturday, I attended the funeral of Brandon Zucker. In 2000, Brandon Zucker, aged four, was seriously injured at Disneyland after being trapped under the Roger Rabbit ride for about 10 minutes. He had brain damage as a result. (more…)
