In January, I was a bit behind on the rest of my non-SDSVP life and was not able to write for the January 15th newsletter. So in place of my usual piece I asked that the Mission, Core Values and Goals of SDSVP be printed. Not surprisingly, many Partners were pleased to see that SDSVP has some of the fundamentals in place that provide part of the foundation for growth and excellence. (more…)

TKF is embarking on its second critically important program initiative since its founding in 1996. We have just begun a longitudinal study to determine how effective TKF’s programs are in reducing violent behavior. A longitudinal study is simply a long term study with repeated observations to determine a trend. At TKF, we believe that our programs, if implemented at the proper frequency and in the proper settings, can actually reduce a child’s violent behavior. We believe we can reduce youth violence in a specific neighborhood if we implement our programs at the grade schools, middle schools and high schools that feed into each other. (more…)

1 - Seems to me that the media controls who are viable Presidential candidate. The network news, major newspapers and talk radio can promote a candidate by simply providing coverage. Why should we allow these organizations to control who our Presidential candidates are. Seems to me that the voters with the power of the Internet could take that power away from the media. Seems to me that power should be with the voter. (more…)

To start the New Year properly, I would like to share with you my blessings in relation to SDSVP.

I am blessed to have such an active, intelligent, caring and hard working Board. I am constantly reminded how powerful a group of like minded individuals can be. (more…)

Random thoughts on how to make the USA a better place.
1 -Seems to me that the Congress should work on substantial issues like immigration and the budget.
2 -Seems to me that if a borrower can’t make a payment on a loan, the lender and the borrower should deal with the consequences.
3 - Seems to me that Congress should balance the budget. If not, they should be fired. CEOs that can’t figure budgeting out get fired.

I had an interesting ‘ah hah” a few weeks ago while listening to the radio. The talk show hosts were speaking about all the fraudulent charities that spring up after terrible events like the San Diego wildfires. Besides making me sad, I felt lucky that I generally was closely connected to the charities that I donate money to. Not only did I know they were legitimate organizations, but I also know where they specifically need money directed. Of course, SDSVP is a perfect example of the type of charity that I associate with. (more…)
