I just attended a very inspirational SVP International Conference in Seattle this weekend. I was joined by hundreds of other SVP Partners from around the world. SVP has affiliates in 25 cites in 3 countries, USA, Canada, and Japan. Fellow Partners Alan Sorkin, Richard Bockoff, Eric Busboom, Sherri Neasham, and Bill Hahn attended along with Peggy Kidd and Lisa Leete. I am absolutely going to next year’s conference in Cleveland on Oct 3-4, 2008.

Since becoming Chair, I have written 3 short items for the newsletter. I have asked you for money for the endowment, thoughts on what our goals should be and finally referrals for new members. As I look back, I sound like quite the needy person. That is not my intent. I have been not following what I preach and what SDSVP is all about. SDSVP is about giving. I have not been giving.

Let’s Get More Members!
I think that SDSVP is the best membership organization in San Diego. The leverage that our $5,000 yearly donations make is truly amazing. The gift of time, expertise and resources to the San Diego community is needed and precious.

Below is my second submission to the SDSVP electronic newsletter. I am asking for input on goals for the organization. My hope is to get input from a wide cross section of Partners. My fear is that I will not get any input. I will be diligent in requesting input from the Partners and assume that slowly the Partners will realize that I am serious about their views.

This is a brief article I submitted for the SDSVP newsletter. I am a huge believer in endowments. I think that if a non-profit can build an endowment to cover the overhead necessary to run the organization, it allows for 2 very important things. First is that all money received from new donors can be allocated directly to the programs that the non-profit supports. Second, it takes a huge fundraising burden off of the non-profit staff. This is not to say that the non-profit should ignore fundraising, it just makes the staff a bit less stressed. Anyways, here is what I submitted to the SDSVP newsletter. Please feel free to send in your endowment donations!
